Literacy Tasks, Ideas and Lessons
June 9-12- Last Academic Post
Below I have attached 3 files for you to use if you choose to as review through the summer.
1. A Number Visual: it would be great if this can be put up somewhere in your home!
2. A Rhyming Words Memory Game: use this game to review the concept of rhyming a few times this summer :)
3. An A-Z activity: do the letters your child struggles with most for remembering their sounds, save for the end of August to review sounds and letters before returning (Mrs. Ronnie will thank you ;), or do some each week. Whatever works for your child and your schedule.
Please note that I do not need any more pictures of their work back from you, but I do love to see what they are up to if you want to send, at this point- Kindergarten academics are complete. Thank you for your work this year.

June 2-5 Literacy and Numeracy Task
I can't believe it is June already. These are our last learning tasks for this year!
Below is a letter hunt, counting activity, and book list (all these books can be found on YouTube to listen to instead of purchasing).

May 26-29 Literacy (and Numeracy)
The board game is super cute and works on so many of our numeracy skills: counting, recognizing numbers and remembering how they are formed. Please play this a few times, they love repetition, and they will enjoy getting to know this game.
The literacy activity works on beginning sounds AND ending sounds, help them with these sheets to know what the sheet is actually asking about :)

May 18-22 Literacy
Here is this weeks sounds and numbers activity! Please double check the "blog" tab for this weeks post, I need some pictures of the kiddo's :)
Additionally, a great idea would be to spend an hour (over the course of the week, not all at once), reading stories together and having them pick out the sight words that they know!

May 11-14 Literacy
Hoping for some warm weather so I have the perfect excuse to eat ice cream daily! ;)
I have included some ice cream themed activities and stories for this week. I hope each of you get outside often, as the school year winds down you will notice I am not posting as much content for your child. As we complete the Kindergarten curriculum objectives my hope is that there is continuous review of letters, sounds, numbers 1-20 and early reading (blending easy words and reviewing sight words listed below).
Enjoy. Miss you all.

May 4-8 Literacy
This week in the package we deliver, there will be a mother's day scrapbook- this is the big literacy project for this week. (I have linked it below but we are going to print it for you and drop it off at your home). Please find time to do it with your child, or even better- have someone do it with your child and they can give it to you as a gift!
Below I have added some Mother's Day themed stories for your child to watch and a beginning sounds activity too. Continue to practice from our sight word caterpillar, use the video's I've shared, as well as the games and booklet I sent in the at home package to reinforce letter identification and sounds. A few minutes here and there throughout the day does wonders for your child's thriving brain!

I have added 8 new sight words to our caterpillar for those of you who have been working on your own caterpillars at home.
The new words are "is, did, we, for, that, get, look, are".

I have included an emergent reader, a sequencing activity, a picture example for the number finger painting (please do numbers 11-20), and a finger painting picture example for them to try to recreate. Below all the resources is the youtube video link. On the Stories tab, Mrs. Shackleton recorded the story for the kids as well!

April 14-17 Literacy
I hope you are continuing to access the previous resources: watching the videos and playing the games at home regularly! Repetition is key!
Each of you will receive a package this week, inside there is one of two games: Shovel it Up or Snowman Snowman on the Ground. Please play this game each day to review sounds and/or blending words.
Another activity in the package is a paper that looks like this:

April 6-10 Literacy
One of the things we talked about often in class was syllables, having an awareness of the chunks of words is an important pre-reading skill. We have watched the first video below in class.
Following the video, I would say words that 1-4 syllables and we would clap them out as a class. You can do this with your child for a few minutes each day!
As mentioned in my blog post for this week, in class we had started to work on CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words- stretching them out and blending them together. This is how kids learn to "sound it out" when they begin to read. The second video I posted gives them a great visual to understand this concept. The third video is from a series called Alphablocks (which I love and we used often in class). This video is long (23 minutes) so it doesn't all need to be watch or worked with. During this third video, you can pause the video and have your child print the word that they have made, ask them a word that would rhyme with that word, or to tell you the sounds and letters they see in that word.
Working with them on a few words each day where you are having a dialogue is helpful to them. The conversation you have will go something like this: "This is the word sat, like I sat down, the first sound we hear is ssssss, yes that is an S, well done, what sound do you hear next? 'ah' yes, that is an A we hear saying 'ah', the last letter is a T, what sound does that letter make? It says t, so when we put all those sounds back together we have sssssssaaaaaaahhhhttt, sat. Isn't it amazing how the letters we know each have a sound and those sounds together make a word!?" Please note: we have talked about this concept many times in class, so it is likely that this will be easily understood by your child!

Secondly, below are great alphabet letter and sound songs/videos that they are familiar with.
