Hey Everyone,
I hope this new week finds you in good health and we have a sunny week to enjoy ahead! Thank you for taking the time to connect with me last week. I loved being able to talk to each of you and your children. I am missing them! As mentioned in our phone conversations, the key points I want you to take away from our kindergarten online learning, are these: 1. Playing is how children learn- do the fun stuff, I always want you to choose playing with your child over the academic work I send. 2. Academically, if a child enters grade one, with the ability to identify all 26 letters and their sounds as well as numbers 1-20 (representing and identifying) they will be ready! As an added bonus, (if we were in class) we would be working to know some sight words and how to blend/read simple words together (nap, cat, red- these are called cvc words). I will post resources for you to do all these things with your child. These are what we call the "big rocks" for academics in Kindergarten 3. Moving forward, I will call/facetime you and your child every two weeks to make contact and stay connected. Beyond that, I encourage you to reach out with questions, videos, pictures about your child at anytime. I am available on remind and email Monday-Thursday all day! 4. I will post our Kindergarten online learning every week on Monday or Tuesday for you to do with them throughout the week! Please head over to the Literacy and Purposeful Play tabs for this weeks learning!

This week our theme is connection. On Thursday, April 2 I will contact each of you to ensure that you are connected to this blog which will be the platform in which I will deliver our online learning lessons and ideas for home. I hope to be able to FaceTime or otherwise video chat with each of you and your child for a few minutes that day.
Beyond this week, I want to remain connected to each of you to support you and offer any suggestions I have for letters/sounds, numbers, and play activities that are more specific to your child. As my own family navigates some changes in our home with childcare, I will be available via Remind at all times Monday-Thursday, however my specific work days will vary. On this site you will find a calendar tab which will direct you. Talk to you soon! Mrs. Robinson Hello Parents,
As part of our continued learning for Kindergarten as we face Covid-19 pandemic and move to an e-Learning model, I will be posting Literacy links, ideas and lessons as well as ideas for purposeful play that you can engage with your child during your time at home. The government has recommended approximately 5 hours of learning each week, however, at this age that learning will occur naturally through play. Kindergarten is a carefully planned program of unstructured and structured learning experiences that help each child to develop physically, socially, emotionally, culturally, and intellectually. Kindergarten focuses on developing the child’s ability to understand and use language. At this age, language is used to reinforce their experiences by speaking and listening. I would like to emphasize that as with our school based kindergarten program, it is most important to connect with your child throughout the day while doing activities that are play based. This means, do the simple things like take a walk and talk about what you see, build a lego tower together, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate together while you chat about your child's interests etc. Kindergarten is all about connection, collaboration and playing; I am confident that as parents, you will be successful in providing a fun, nurturing education over the next few months for your child(ren). |
